Grandpa Mellander6/4/2007 – Elmer A. Mellander, 78, of 25 Division St., Warren, Pa., died Friday afternoon, June 1, 2007 at the Warren General Hospital after an extended illness.

He was born January 17, 1929 in Warren, Pa., to the late Elmer V. and Edith E. Anderson Mellander. He has resided in the Warren area his entire life.

He had served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War as a Sergeant First Class. He had worked in the printing trade for 44 years, retiring from the Journal Press of Jamestown, N.Y. in 1991.

He was a lifetime member of the former First Baptist Church, where he served on many boards and offices over the years. He was presently a member of the Pleasant Community Church. He enjoyed model airplane building and flying. He was an avid fisherman. He was a member of the Kinzua Aeromodelers, Flying Aces of Erie, Pa., and the Warren Senior Center. He enjoyed and loved his family.

He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Jeanne Way Mellander, whom he married in Warren, Pa., on June 25, 1949; children, Timothy L. Mellander and is wife, Rebecca, of Endicott, N.Y., Linda S. Halladay and her husband, Allen, of Great Valley, N.Y., Karen A. Zolet and her husband, David, of Columbia, Md., Beth E. Naretto and her husband, Joseph, of Irwin, Pa.; grandsons, Micah Mellander and his wife, Erin, of Endwell, N.Y., Joshua Mellander of Endicott, N.Y., Ben Halladay and his wife, Jennifer, of Xenia, Ohio, Brett Halladay of West Chester, Pa., Joseph Naretto of Manassas, Va., Nicholas Naretto of Irwin, Pa., Morry Zolet of Columbia, Md.; granddaughters, Laura Halladay and Jacquelyn Halladay both of Great Valley, N.Y., Anna Naretto of Irwin, Pa., great-grandchildren, Lukas and Nicholas Mellander, both of Endwell, N.Y.; and one brother, Quentin W. Mellander and his wife, Grace, of Adamstown, Md.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Vernard Mellander; and a sister, Evelyn Roemer.

Friends may call from 7-9 p.m. Monday at the Donald E. Lewis Funeral Home, Inc., 304 East Street, Warren, Pa.

A funeral and committal service will be conducted there at 11 a.m. Tuesday with Rev. Michael Poindexter, pastor of the Pleasant Community Church, officiating. Interment will be in Warren County Memorial Park.

Grandpa Mellander

My Grandfather, Elmer Mellander, passed away this morning, after a long battle with his health. He is survived by his wife Jeanne, his four children, Tim, Linda, Karen and Beth, his ten grandchildren, Micah, Josh, Ben, Joe, Nick, Brett, Laura, Anna, Morry and Jackie and his two great-grandchildren, Lukas and Nicholas. He loved building and flying model airplanes and gliders, fly fishing and camping. He will be greatly missed by all.
